So, you’re wondering: what is a safe hot tub temperature? Ask and ‘ye shall receive. We’re going to provide you with all the information you need below.

What Should My Hot Tub Temperature Be At?

There is quite a bit to discuss when discussing hot tub temperature. First, let’s discuss the ideal temperature range. Generally speaking, your hot tub should be between 100 and 102 degrees Fahrenheit.  Note, though, that it’s not unsafe for it to be as hot as 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Some individuals might even be able to withstand 105 degrees Fahrenheit or 106 degrees Fahrenheit, though, if you choose to set your hot tub at that temperature, you should do so with caution.  Make note, however, that these maximums don’t take small children into account. If your child is under the age of 5, he or she shouldn’t get into a hot tub unless its temperature is 95 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. Higher temperatures can cause a child to feel lightheaded and might even cause him or her to pass out.  There’s also the issue of pregnant women. Truthfully, pregnant women should avoid hot tubs as much as possible. If they do get into a hot tub, it shouldn’t exceed 102 degrees Fahrenheit and, in truth, the lower the temperature, the safer the situation.

How Long Should You Stay in a Hot Tub?

Not only do you need to limit the temperature of your hot tub, but you also need to limit the amount of time that you spend in your hot tub during a single session. It can be dangerous to spend too long a time inside of a hot tub.  Generally speaking, you should keep your sessions between 15 and 30 minutes. You should never go any longer than 45 minutes. If you start feeling lightheaded, you should exit the hot tub immediately.

Potential Dangers of Hot Tubs

There are several health-related consequences of using a hot tub that’s too hot. They include the following.

Dizziness

The first health consequence you’re bound to experience is dizziness. The heat can lead to dehydration, thus leading to a feeling of lightheadedness. This is your sign to get out of the hot tub. If you stay in after this symptom has presented itself, you risk incurring other problems.

Nausea

The next symptom that will present itself is nausea. You’ll start feeling as though you’re going to vomit. In some cases, this will actually happen.  At this point, you should realize that the hot tub is doing much more harm than good. Get out as soon as possible.

Fainting

High heats could also lead to fainting. This could, of course, lead to you losing control of your body, risking drowning. For obvious reasons, you don’t want it to get to this point.

Death

In the most severe cases, hot tubs can actually lead to death. This is particularly true for those who have heart issues, as hot tubs tend to increase heart rate and lower blood pressure.  A bit of relaxation isn’t worth dying over. Make sure the temperature is set at a reasonable level and get out the second you start to feel abnormal.

The Benefits of Hot Tubs

Now that we’ve discussed the doom and the gloom let’s discuss the benefits of hot tubs. They most certainly have them, and they include the following:

Recreation

First and foremost, hot tubs are fun. Who doesn’t love to jump into a steaming pool of water and congregate with their friends? It can bring life to a get-together and can help people to loosen up around each other.  If you host a lot of parties, having a hot tub on the premises could bring a whole other level of fun. This is true whether it’s the middle of the summer or in the dead of winter.

Eased Muscles

Maybe you work a physically demanding job? Perhaps you play a lot of football? Whatever the case may be, your muscles are regularly sore.  This is where a hot tub can be a huge help. By soaking in a hot tub, you can loosen up your muscles, relieving pain and creating a higher level of comfort.

Hot tubs stimulate the brain and the nervous system, allowing for increased relaxation and reduced anxiety. So, by hopping into that discount hot tub at the end of a long day, you can put your stress to rest.

Improved Sleep

Have trouble falling asleep at night? Thrash and startle throughout the night? A hot tub could be the difference-maker for you.  As was noted, hot tubs help to reduce stress and anxiety. Stress and anxiety are often the causes of poor sleep. So, by spending some time in a hot tub, you stand a good chance of improving your sleep quality.

Reduced Risk of Headache

Are headaches a problem for you? If so, you should really consider investing in a hot tub. Hot tubs can help to dilate the blood vessels, taking pressure off of the head.  There’s also the warmth factor. The warm steam will rise off the water and loosen muscles in your head and face.
